Prayer of Silence
O That Which Is,
who has no name,
yet in whom all names rest.
Before light learned to reveal itself
and time remembered its first step,
You were —
not as a voice, but as listening,
not as force, but as holding.
We stand naked before You,
not in body, but in intention.
Take from us what is not true,
and leave what cannot fade.
Teach us to understand silence,
for in silence there is no deceit.
Teach us slowness,
for haste is the prayer of fear.
When we pray,
do not fulfill our desires,
but cleanse our seeing,
so that we may learn to desire rightly.
When we err,
do not punish us,
but remember us as ourselves —
as You knew us before the error.
Bind our heart
to all hearts,
so that we may no longer cause harm
without being wounded ourselves.
And when words come to an end,
be You the one
who remains.
Amen.
Or in the language of silence:
that which is.
